HV Practical Switching
The 4-Day Practical HV Switching Course is designed to give delegates real-world experience in a safe, controlled training environment.
Unlike classroom-only courses, this programme utilises our dedicated 11kV mock switch room, allowing candidates to carry out practical switching exercises without the risks associated with live systems. Delegates gain hands-on competence and confidence while applying the Electrical and Mechanical Safety Rules and associated documentation.
By the end of the course, delegates will have developed practical knowledge and skills in:
- Safe access procedures for switch rooms
- HV switching procedures
- Issuing and receiving switching instructions
- Issuing and receiving earthing instructions
- Performing HV switching and earthing operations
- Isolation of HV apparatus
- Correct use of approved voltage measuring devices to prove circuits dead
- Preparing and issuing PFWs (Permits for Work) and SFTs (Sanctions for Test)
- Issuing, receiving, transferring, and suspending PFWs and SFTs
- Issuing and receiving RISSPs
- Testing HV apparatus
